Yoga- Forward Bends

When you take the shape of a forward bend, you fold in toward yourself, which encourages a sense of introspection and stillness. Upavistha Konasana (Wide-Angle Seated Forward Bend) may look simple, but the mental patterns this pose creates can be revealing and enlightening.

Often, comparing yourself to others in the room or expecting unrealistic results from your body (why can't I get my chin to the floor?!) can cause suffering—but as the yogic sage Patanjali said, "Heyam dukham anagatam," the pain that is yet to come can be avoided.

By gently allowing your body to discover Upavistha Konasana through different poses or variations, you remind yourself not to mistake who you are for how you should look in a pose—opening both your muscles and your mind along the way.
